Hugo Lloris sends warning to Antonio Conte and his Tottenham side ahead of Brentford clash

Hugo Lloris' disappointment after the Brighton game could in fact serve as a warning to Antonio Conte for the upcoming Brentford clash. After winning four in a row, Spurs lost to Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

As Arsenal also lost 1-0 to Southampton hours later, the Lilywhites got to remain in fourth in the Premier League table. However Tottenham will have to continue their battle to secure Champions League football for next season, with just six games left to play.

The fixture against the Seagulls was lacklustre and didn't have the fight that the Spurs side had shown in recent games before. Tottenham didn't have a single shot on target against Brighton and the visiting side had five opportunities at Lloris' goal.

The recent matches and results against the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle have helped the Lilywhites not only improve their goal difference, but also display much of what Conte has improved since his arrival. Not only have individuals' performances improved, but there is also more team cohesion and the 11 players on the pitch look like they're enjoying playing once again.

However, Saturday's match highlighted that the consistency problem still hasn't been solved and there is still work to be done to improve the squad. After the defeat, the Tottenham skipper gave his honest thoughts on the performance and what his side now need to do.

"The only thing is to look forward now. We've got one week now to prepare for the next battle," Lloris explained in his post-match interview with Spurs TV.

"It's important to analyse well the game and analyse well the performance and learn from this game because I think it will happen again, this type of team, already safe in the Premier League, that play with freedom, they come here just to compete and enjoy the competition, without the pressure of the results. In our side we play for big things so we can only blame ourselves and continue to work.

"Today [Saturday] there is plenty of questions about the performance that we need to answer, why we could not increase the intensity, why we could not change the rhythm at some point in the game and then today we were a bit too slow in transition by passing the ball and we lost a lot of easy balls. This doesn't help the confidence individually and of course for the team," he added.

"We are so very disappointed and we need another run of wins, if they are six games left, we need to continue to win." The World Cup winner summed up the display perfectly, with the lack of energy and creativity clearly shown throughout, in a game Tottenham needed and were expected to get three points out of.

Spurs' next game is a trip to Brentford and the reverse tie saw Conte's side secure three points with a 2-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The clash will be a special one for Tottenham fans, as they will watch Christian Eriksen back in the Premier League live, for the first time since his return.

The Lilywhites need to get maximum points from the tie, so they can keep their fourth spot in the league, with Arsenal now level on points after winning their game in hand against Chelsea on Wednesday night. However, Lloris' verdict may have sent Conte a warning ahead of Saturday's game.

The goalkeeper references Brighton's position in the league and that they are quite settled, so can play their final matches with less pressure. The Bees are currently one point and position below Potter's side in the league and have played an extra game.

Therefore Tottenham will need to make sure it doesn't happen again, which Lloris suggests it could. Brentford will go into the tie hoping to produce the strongest performance possible.

Thomas Frank's side have had some good results recently, beating Chelsea and West Ham not long ago, which perhaps might have been helped by the lack of pressure riding on then. Conte's side, on the other hand, will go into the game needing three points.

Either way, both teams will want to win as they go into their final matches of the season, but only time will tell if Tottenham can bounce back from Saturday's defeat and not have a repeat of the performance or result.
