Fans got a first taste of the chocolate factory with a new hilarious shot of Hugh Grant as a bright orange Oompa Loompa in a sneak peek preview of the highly anticipated Wonka movie.
The film is set to grace the big screen in December and Grant, 62, will be playing the iconic Oompa Loompa character, who are Wonka's tiny orange assistants inside the factory. The upcoming Wonka movie will follow the original story inspired by Roald Dahl's 1964 classic children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
It has already caused great excitement for fans, with the famous Paul King directing and an incredibly talented cast including Timothee Chalamet, Ryan Gosling, and many more. And now, the latest images have sent fans into overdrive.
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, fans got a first look at the Oompa Loompa character in an image featuring Grant. In the photo Grant is seen as a miniature character trapped inside glass jar holding an instrument with Chalamet as Wonka looking at the small man in wonder. Staring back with a questionable look on his bright orange face the character is seen sporting a tiny dark tweed purple suit with bright neon green curled up hair, white eyebrows, tiny curled up shoes with pom-poms at the tip.
This image is the first of few that fans have gotten to lay their eyes on in the newest cinematic adventure with the Charlie in the Chocolate Factory characters. This image already hints at similarities to the nostaglic 1971 classic with Grant sporting an almost identical look to the original Oompa Loompas in the original film starring Gene Wilder.
Roald Dahl fans have already taken to Twitter reacting to the images, sharing their excitement for the upcoming film and theories about the relation to past tales of the candy maker.
One fan Tweeted: "Somehow this image feels perfect," while another gushed: "This movie is going to make 1 wonkbillion dollars"
And a third added: "Safe to assume that this is set in the same universe as the 1970s movie, not the Johnny Depp reboot"
Actor Chalamet also gave his own sneak peek preview with shots from the filming of Wonka, on his on social media announcing his role as the young Willy Wonka in 2021. The now 27-year-old is finally in the home stretch of the movie being released two years later.
The Oscar award-winning star has some big shoes to fill as Wonka with incredible past performances in previous renditions of the novel starring actors Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005.
King's 2023 Wonka will be released in theatres on December 15.
