Hugh Dallas says he wants to see conversations between on-field officials and VAR broadcast in order to improve transparency in the game.
The former grade one referee believes broadcasting communication between officials would help "clarify" decisions to fans. The game between Liverpool and Leicester City in the English Premier League tonight will be the first in the United Kingdom to trial allowing spectators to hear what is being said between the referee and VAR officials. FIFA rules block fans being able to hear these conversations live, but audio could be available after the full-time whistle.
Fans in Scotland have hit out at referees and VAR officials over their handling of the technology since it was introduced last year before the the World Cup. There is not a week that goes by when VAR does not make the headlines and Dallas believes introducing the communication aspect would help fans understand how decisions are made.
Dallas was asked if he would in favour of broadcasting conversations, he told BBC Sport Scotland: "I would welcome that and I don't think the referees or VARs would have negative thoughts towards this.
"I think it's transparency, I don't think they have got anything to hide. There is a protocol to follow which to has been set out by the International Football Association Board so it allows VARs to do certain things and it doesn't allow them to do other things.
"It allows them to communicate with the referee in a certain manner and they shouldn't go outwith that. I think this would definitely clarify exactly what's going on and I'm all for transparency, I don't see any issue with it."
