A huge tree collapsed into a mosque in Leeds during Storm Eunice.
The tree’s roots were ripped from the ground outside the Baab Ul Ilm Centre in Shadwell sending it crashing into the roof of the building.
A spokesman for the centre said that “by the grace of God, no-one was injured” in the incident which happened at the height of Storm Eunice on Friday afternoon.
A picture taken by the centre showed the large tree lying across the building beside a pedestrian crossing on Shadwell Lane.
A spokesman said: “During yesterday’s storm a large tree fell on our Centre Baabulilm. By the grace of God no one was injured.”
The incident was one of scores across the region yesterday as Storm Eunice swept across Yorkshire with gusts of more than 80mph.
In another incident cladding was ripped off a nine-storey apartment building in Leeds.
West Yorkshire Police reported more than 1,000 calls to 999 between midnight and 10pm on Friday.
The gales were followed by heavy snow across much of the county today which led to serious disruption on the roads.
