Huge storm update for Ireland as horror weather system dramatically changes direction

A storm that was heading straight for Ireland looks to be changing direction, according to one weather expert who previously warned of its arrival.

it looked as though the south of Ireland would be the first hit but it now looks as though France is in the firing line and Ireland could be out of danger.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow weather tweeted: “Latest weather model updates keep the potential storm Thursday night well south of Ireland now. Most likely impacting France now”.

LATEST: Ireland weather: Storm fears grow as thunder and lightning chaos to strike within hours

The day will begin cloudy on Tuesday morning with rain due across much of the country's eastern half, slowly clearing eastwards with showers in the west following, according to Met Eireann.

Some bright and sunny spells will develop but there will be scattered showers throughout the afternoon as well - some turning heavy later.

Temperatures will be mild with highs of 11 to 15 or 16 degrees expected. It will be blustery at times too with moderate fresh and gusty south to southwest winds.

Tuesday night will see scattered showers slowly clearing leaving things dry for a time before another band of rain moves in from the west and south at dawn.

It’ll be a mild night generally with lows of 8 to 10 degrees in light southerly breezes, freshening again and increasing to strong gusts around coasts.

Wednesday will be a fairly wet day with scattered blustery showers or longer spells of rain, becoming drier in the evening.

Things will remain mild with highs of 12 to 15 degrees and fresh to strong southerly winds becoming moderate southwesterly winds later.

Showers will affect mainly western and southern areas with drier conditions elsewhere at night.

However, it will continue to be mild overnight with lows of 7 to 9 degrees, with moderate to fresh south-to-southwesterly winds.

Current projections show a mild showery day on Thursday, followed by more widespread rain on Thursday night into Friday with the potential for strong winds in parts - as a result of the potential storm headed out way.

As for the end of the week, Irish forecasters say: “It looks like turning a bit cooler on Friday and for Saturday with a northwesterly airstream feeding in sunshine and showers”.

Alan O'Reilly said: "Weather model trends continue to show a chance of more settled weather next week with high pressure close by but little uncertain this far out."
