'Huge search and rescue operation' in Bury in early hours

The police helicopter, fire and rescue crews and paramedics were all involved in a "huge rescue operation" in Bury in the early hours of Thursday morning (August 25).

Photographs show a number of emergency services vehicles and personnel on Valley Mill Lane. A press photographer at the scene said a "huge rescue operation" appeared to be taking place, centred around the River Roch.

The Police helicopter was hovering over the area for around 45 minutes, with a large fire service presence - including water teams also in attendance. Police officers and paramedics were also at the scene.

It is believed that a woman had fallen into the river. However, it is understood that the woman has been found and is now in the care of the ambulance service.

A woman was seen being carried to an ambulance. She was said to be conscious and talking to paramedics.
