Huge rescue operation in Boston Spa as woman and her dog fall off cliff into River Wharfe

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews rushed to save a woman who fell into the River Wharf on Sunday morning.

Around 11.34am crews from Wetherby Fire Station crews were called to Deepdale Lane, Boston Spa, Wetherby after a woman was spotted in the water. She had fallen down off a cliff edge into the river.

The individual who call emergency services said the injured woman had a broken arm. This meant she was unable to swim and get out of the water. Pictures from the scene show firefighters, police and paramedics in attendance.

Fire control operator remained on the line reassuring the caller until fire crews arrived the incident who became increasingly concerned about the woman. Ambulance crews and West Yorkshire Police officers were also at the scene.

The victim was rescued by fire crews and put in an ambulance and taken to hospital. Her dog was also rescued from the water using a two line rescue system.
