Huge record fair coming to Wirral on the banks of the River Mersey

A huge new record fair is coming to Wirral on the banks of the River Mersey with 28 record stalls from dealers across the UK.

VOD Music is hosting the event which takes place in June at the historic Pacific Road Arts Centre in Birkenhead. The former music venue will be packed with stalls selling all genres and formats, including vinyls, CDs and cassettes.

There will also be a variety of merchandise and memorabilia available to purchase, plus live music and DJs. Near to the record fair is Woodside Ferry Village Market where visitors can browse a variety of stalls selling everything from cake and crystals to Indian rugs and incense. There are also eateries and bars at the market.

Organisers VOD Music have been hosting Record Fairs since 2006. They also have the smallest independent Record Shop in the UK. Colin Trueman from VOD Music said: "This is such an exciting prospect. Although I now live in Mold, North Wales, I spent my first 25 years in Wirral and the love for your place of birth never leaves you.

“We are very grateful to Laura-Jane Dodd from the Wirral Chamber of Commerce & Pacific Road for making this possible. My love for music started right here, hanging out at cool record shops and gigs. I owe the inspiration for our Record Fairs and shop to those early years on Merseyside. Our events are happy social gatherings of like minded music fans with the emphasis fully on enjoyment.

“Since announcing this Record Fair, I have been chatting to so many people about their memories of the Pacific Road gigs which unfortunately ceased over a decade ago when events were moved to The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. Bands like The Damned, Hawkwind, Steve Hackett, Beth Orton, Wishbone Ash and so many more all played at Pacific Road and it is still an amazing space which we hope we can bring to life again on the day and with future events.”

The records fair takes place on Saturday, June 4, from 10am to 4pm. Entry to the fair is free and can be found at Pacific Road, Woodside, Birkenhead, CH41 1LJ. For more information about the event, visit the VOD Music website where there will be regular updates.
