Huge queues form outside Burger King as it reopens drive-thrus

Motorists formed long queues waiting to get into a newly reopened Burger King drive-thru on Merseyside.

The Burger King, on East Prescot Road, is now accepting drive-thru customers and delivery and is currently the only one in Merseyside to do so, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Burger King closed its doors in March to help stop the spread of  coronavirus,  but has reopened certain drive thrus across the country this month.

The several restaurants are now open for drive thru from 12pm until 10pm daily and orders can also be placed on JustEat.

Some people were clearly happy to get their hands on a Burger King Whopper again.  ECHO  photographer Andy Teebay spotted big queues leading up the East Prescot Road restaurant yesterday afternoon.

Burger King is currently offering a limited menu which includes the Whopper, Chicken Royale and kids Chicken Nuggets and Cheese Burger.

Safety measures in place include additional PPE for staff, stringent cleaning measures, contactless delivery options via delivery services and all Burger King staff comprehensively trained on the Government’s social distancing measures – including how to run kitchens hygienically, whilst abiding by them.

The scenes outside Burger King echo those outside KFC and even Costa Coffee when they reopened drive-thrus.

With McDonald's joining in today, we can expect more of the same outside branches.

In Spain, people were so keen to get their hands on a Big Mac again they formed tailbacks down the motorway - while in the UK people drove for miles so they could be close enough to order delivery when the first branches reopened here.
