Huge queues at Scots beach as revellers bask in balmy spring heatwave

Large queues have been pictured at a Scots beach as revellers basked in the rare early spring heatwave this afternoon.

Edinburgh residents made their way down to Portobello Beach as temperatures reached a summer-like 17 degrees.

The seafront is always bustling during the warmest months of the year - but it's not often rammed before the start of April.

But the balmy spring sunshine has given Scots something to smile about, as Wednesday marked one of the warmest days of the year so far.

In typical fashion, that meant locals in the capital flooded down to the promenade, reports Edinburgh Live.

It may still be a tad nippy for some - but it didn't stop folk stopping for a quick paddle and setting up with their beach towels and picnic rugs on the golden sands.

As well as the beach being busier than usual, the promenade was also attracting a lot of folk desperate to try out the beach-side cafe's and restaurants.

The addition of Civerinos Pizza at Portobello has attracted more hungry customers, with the company opting for a shrewd location to offer their signature pizza slices and fries in a cone.

And large queues could be seen outside the premises throughout the afternoon as locals snapped up some grub in the sun.

With the weather set to take a drastic turn for the worse next week with rain and chilly temperatures forecast, this presented the prime opportunity for revellers to get out and savour the brief spell of heat - and some even had their swimwear on.

Temperatures reached as high as 19 degrees in Glasgow on Wednesday - and the good news is the blissful heat is set to continue across the country for the rest of the week.
