Huge queues at Merseyside chippies on Good Friday

People across Merseyside have been queueing up outside their local chippies for fish and chips this Good Friday.

It’s tradition to eat fish on the Friday of the Easter weekend, and the huge queues seen at chippies across the region today shows many families still follow this national tradition. We recently asked our readers to vote for their favourite Liverpool chippy in our survey, and it’s no surprise that Byrnes came out on top with it being a firm favourite in the city.

However, fans of Byrnes will have been left disappointed today, as both of the its branches in Walton and Norris Green were closed on Good Friday for the second year running. The family decided to close last year to give the family a well-earned break, and Byrnes recently confirmed on Twitter it was doing the same this year.

Despite Byrnes being closed, many other chippies were open for business across Merseyside today. Parkgate Fish and Chips in Wirral saw large queues, as did Steve's on Aigburth Vale and Allerton Fish Bar.
