Huge outdoor cinema announced for history Nottinghamshire abbey this summer

It might be hard to think about the coming summer months while the weather is so cold but there are already plenty of events being announced. Adventure cinema is set to return to Nottingham this summer with one of its biggest outdoor film tours yet.

The Uk's largest open-air cinema will host more than 250 screenings across 70 venues nationwide starting from April 28. The cinema will come to Newstead Abbey with three screenings starting on July 21. It will also visit Calke Abbey and Hardwick Hall in Derby.

Some of the films on offer will include the best of 2022 such as Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick and Matilda the Musical. For classic film fans there will also be favourites such as Back to the Future, Grease and Dirty Dancing with many more to be announced.

Cinemagoers can book special Sing-A-Long screenings for The Greatest Showman and Grease. Food and drink will be available at the event, including a fully-stocked bar, but visitors are welcome to picnic at the former Augustinian priory, too. The beautiful abbey adds a stunning backdrop to the films, which start at 9:45 pm.

Tickets are on sale for the screenings at £15.50 for standard entry through the cinema website. There is also a premium option where you can pay £21.50 for a luxury deckchair to be placed in a prime position for you.

Ben Lovell, Co-Director of Adventure Cinema said: "We are delighted to announce that the 2023 tour will be our biggest yet. This season's selection of films features something for everyone, from award-winning new releases to old-school classics and films for the whole family."

"It's perfect for those who love the cinema and the great outdoors. We can't wait to bring everyone together once again for some unforgettable cinema experiences."

Pop-up cinemas have become popular in Nottingham, especially since the lockdown with many being held across the city. Newstead Abbey, The Notts Maze and Secret Garden are just three locations that have hosted outdoor events while there are plenty of indoor pop-ups taking place such as Fortune and Glory Cinema and The Embankment pub.
