Filming has begun on a brand new drama for ITV in Wales. The Winter King, based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles, is a bold and revisionist take on the well-loved Arthurian Legends, and follows Arthur Pendragon as he evolves from outcast to legendary warrior and leader.
The cast of this major new series includes Agents of Shield and The Control Room star, Iain de Caestecker. as the young Arthur who begins as an exiled bastard before becoming the greatest hope for Britain.
Also in the cast for the show, which is being made by Wales-based Bad Wolf who have Doctor Who, His Dark Materials and more huge productions under their belts, is SAS Rogue Heroes' Stuart Campbell, Eddie Marsan who is known for The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe, Deceit, Ray Donovan and filmed The Pact series one in Wales.

Ellie James Giri/Haji, I May Destroy You), Nathaniel Martello-White (Small Axe, I Hate Suzie), Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie, The Crown), Valen Kane (The Fall, Gangs of London) and Simon Merrells also star in the show which is being filmed in the south west of England as well as here in Wales
The Winter King is set in the 5th century long before Britain was united. In a land of warring factions and tribes when the World was brutal and lives were often fleeting. Produced by Bad Wolf in association with One Big Picture and distributed by Sony Pictures Television, The Winter King has been commissioned for ITVX by Head of Drama, Polly Hill. Polly will oversee the commission on behalf of the channel.
The Winter King isn't the only thing being made here in Wales at the moment, filming for Netflix's Sex Education fourth series is currently underway and the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special has been in production, as well as filming for the new series with the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa and new companion, Millie Gibson, soon to start.
