If you fancy living in a new home right on the doorstep of Langland Bay with the Wales Coast Path nearby, you'll need to join the queue of almost 300 people who have so far registered their interest for just 15 private homes being built in a site there.
The controversial housing estate scheme on Higher Lane, Langland, is being built on one of the last green fields on that Gower headland and was approved in 2020, despite opposition from some councillors concerned about protecting Gower as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Now, 15 of the 31 homes which will be built there have been listed by Swansea's Dawsons Estate Agents, with initial priority given to those who already live in nearby areas. For 16 weeks, those who already live, work or have an existing link to the Bishopston, Fairwood, Gower, Mayals, Newton, Oystermouth, Pennard, Penclawdd and West Cross areas will be given priority to purchase, providing it will be their main residence. And almost 300 have already registered their interest in the properties, being built by Edenstone Homes.

The Meadows housing estate will offer a selection of contemporary, semi-detached and detached three and four-bedroom homes which are described as perfect for family living. There will also be an open space with seating for residents to enjoy. Prices for the properties will be announced at the launch.
“New build homes in Langland are few and far between and when it comes to location it doesn’t get much better than where we’re building," a spokesperson for Edenstone Homes said. "Located close to the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the beautiful Langland Peninsula, and near to the Coastal Path, the homes at The Meadows will enjoy a simply stunning setting. Understandably, there’s a real buzz about the development – people have been keen to find out more about the properties, when they will be available and how soon they could potentially move in.
"The volume of enquiries we’ve received for the number of homes we’re building is phenomenal. We’ve been keeping those who’ve registered interest updated about our progress. Through our exclusive partnership with Dawsons, who will manage the sale of the properties, we will be able to ensure that local people are given priority to purchase.”
A spokesperson for Dawsons said they were aware of the shortage of homes - particularly new-build ones - in the area and that The Meadows in Langland had to be one of Swansea West's best locations. As well as the private sale homes, there will be 16 affordable homes as part of the development. Eight of these will be available for immediate tenure and the other eight will be up for social rent through Coastal Housing.
Edenstone has said it also plans to invest more than £75,000 in the local community including £55,000-plus towards improvement works to the Wales Coastal Path, including maintenance and help with coastal erosion. Over £20k will be put towards road crossing improvements at Worcester Drive and bus travel infrastructure, as well as dedicated land for a new footpath. Edenstone has also planned a maintenance and management plan for existing trees and hedges, with additional planting to be carried out.
