A martial artist who played Colin Farrell’s stunt double in the Oscar-nominated The Banshees of Inisherin has said it was a "huge honour" to have been selected.
Philip Condron, 32, from Ballymun, who runs Screen Combat Ireland training performers in martial arts and action training, has been working in the performing arts industry for four years.
He was selected to be the stunt double for the top Hollywood actor’s character Pádraic Súilleabháin in a scene filmed on the edge of the sea-cliff of Dun Aonghasa on Aran Islands.

“I was standing on the edge of Dun Aonghasa as Colin’s character Padraic, waving out at a boat,” Philip explained.
“I had safety wires on and it was surreal. I was really excited to play Colin’s stunt double and it was a huge honour.”
“We had to do a couple of takes to get the right angle but we got there,” he said, adding that Colin offered to make him a cup of tea after his stint - but he humbly refused as he didn’t want to overstep the mark.
“Colin is a lovely guy. We exchanged a few stories and he stood near to me in a couple of takes which was nice of him to do.”
Philip said when he was offered the part he didn’t realise at the time it was as Colin’s stunt double.
“I got sent a side profile photo and was asked if my hair is the same in the photo which it was. And it was a week later I realised it was actually Colin’s side profile in the photo.”
This wasn’t the first time Philip, who has trained in martial arts for over 20 years, played a stunt double.
He played actor Cassian Bilton’s stunt double in Foundation and last year played a stunt double involved in a fight in a toilet with actor and son of Ice Cube, O’Shea Jackson Jnr in Cocaine Bear.
“It’s been a wild and long journey and surreal at times,” said Philip, who is now concentrating on training those in the performing arts industry in martial arts and action training from his school on Dublin’s Parnell Square.
