Huge Glasgow fire at former factory still burning after 11 hours as neighbours warned 'stay indoors'

Firefighters are still at the scene of a burning derelict building in Glasgow's Springburn area, 11 hours after being called.

The major fire erupted within the former Promat factory on Petershill Road at around 8.20pm yesterday, with emergency services rushing to the scene this morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed the blaze is still ongoing this morning with firefighters still in attendance.

Springburn residents were asked to remain indoors and keep all windows closed due to the large amounts of smoke caused by the incident.

A spokesperson for the SFRS told Glasgow Live : "We received a call for a fire on Petershill Road at 8:21pm on Wednesday, May 31. We are still in attendance for a well developed fire within a derelict building.

"The building is still alight this morning. We sent four appliances to the scene of the incident."

In a statement last night, Police Scotland echoed calls for residents to remain indoors and confirmed the cause of the fire would be investigated.

They said: "The Emergency Services are currently dealing with a fire within a derelict industrial premises in Petershill Road, Springburn, Glasgow.

"Residents in the area are being advised to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.

"A number of road closures are in place and the public should avoid the area.

"The fire was reported shortly before 8.30pm and the cause will be investigated."
