Huge fire completely destroys Stoke Gifford children's play park

A children's play park was completely destroyed by a large fire last night. Fire crews were called to the scene of the blaze in Mead Park, Stoke Gifford at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

An eyewitness told BristolLive it was the wooden play slide and castle in the park that caught fire. They reported that both Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Avon & Somerset Police were at the scene of the fire. Video footage captured at the scene shows towering flames and thick, dark smoke pouring into the air.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire & Rescue Service said the wooden park had been "100 percent" damaged by fire. This amounted to an area of around 10m x 10m.

Three fire appliances were sent and crews used two high pressure hoses, hose reel jets, and one breathing apparatus to put out the flames. Crews left the scene at around 9.35pm.
