EMERGENCY services were called to a huge fire at a McDonald's restaurant on the outskirts of Dundee this morning.
Fire crews from multiple stations descended on the Ethiebeaton Park area of Monifieth after the McDonald's branch caught fire at around 1.15am on Tuesday.
Kingsway, Balmossie, Macalpine and Blackness fire stations were sent to the scene and a group of firefighters remain in attendance.
Images shared on social media showed the fire growing higher and smoke billowing from the site.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.13am on Tuesday, November 21 to a fire at a commercial property at Ethiebeaton Park, Monifieth.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a high reach appliance to the scene. No casualties have been reported, one crew remain on scene.”
An official McDonald's spokesperson said employees were on shift when the blaze started.
Everyone was able to leave the restaurant safely and there was no smoke inhalation reported.
Police officers were forced to close a section of the main A92 road which connects Arbroath and Dundee and local residents were also advised to shut their windows.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "The A92 was closed from the West Grange roundabout to the Ethiebeation Roundabout in both directions. The closure was due to smoke from a nearby fire. Residents were advised to keep their windows closed."
