Merseyside Police were also in attendance as a section of St John's Road and Syren Street were cordoned off.

Crews worked within the cordon and used an aerial appliance, two ground monitors and one high pressure hose reel.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed in a statement that "All persons have been accounted for".

They said: "Crews were alerted just after 9.10pm and were on scene shortly before 9.15pm on Friday 25 th February.

"Five fire engines and one aerial appliance are at scene. This is a builders yard approximately 20 x 40 metres well alight.

"This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area."

An eyewitness at the scene said fire crews had to use the nearby Leeds-Liverpool canal as a water source to fight the fire.
