A new type of e-scooter will be rolled out across the city today in a major change for road users.
Europe’s leading e-scooter operator, Voi, will launch its new model, the Voiager 5 (V5), on Tuesday, which comes new and improved features as part of the company's mission to become carbon positive by 2030. The trial of e-scooters in Liverpool has been popular, although there were some concerns raised about safety, with changes made to the scheme.
Voi said safety remains its top priority, with the e-scooter company recently announcing a partnership with Lazarillo, an app that improves accessibility for blind and visually-impaired people. The company said it has also launched a new safety campaign “Let’s get it right” to continue to educate riders to follow the rules of the road and ride safely.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council, who are running the trial with Voi, last year heralded it as a success. The city will now join the likes of Bath and Bristol and other cities across Europe such as Bordeaux, Madrid and Milan where the new V5 model has already successfully been rolled out.
To celebrate the arrival of the Voiager 5, the company is offering new riders across the city 15 minutes of free riding. To get the offer new riders need to download the app, input a valid payment method and add 'V5UK' to their in-app wallet before it expires on Thursday 30 June.
The V5 is said to be Voi’s most circular vehicle yet with components that are easier to repair and reuse, and more than double the amount of recycled materials. New and improved features include an updated dashboard design, integrated phone holder and automated turn indicator switch, also enhance the rider experience and help riders navigate city streets easily, efficiently and safely.
Jack Samler, General Manager at Voi UK and Ireland, said: “The Voiager 5 model encapsulates Voi’s values, from pushing boundaries when it comes to safe and inclusive design, to riding together so that we can create better cities for living, free of congestion and pollution.
“Producing a new model like this is the result of collaboration across the board, from warehouse staff to engineering experts, sustainability gurus to mechanical geniuses. It is this Voi teamwork that has rapidly transformed our commitment to circularity and sustainability.
“We know that our riders in Liverpool will love the new V5 model because it’s suited to their everyday needs as it’s engineered for the city. We’re excited to continue delivering a world-class rental scheme to help decarbonise Liverpool cities and create better places for living.”
