Huge Celtic transfer price slapped on Parkhead star as he's compared to Premier League maestro

Celtic hero John Hartson has read James Maddison being linked with a £50m transfer - but doesn't know whether he's any better than Matt O'Riley.

The midfielder arrived at Parkhead from MK Dons in January and has lit the place up with a range of stunning performances. O'Riley is already attracting interest and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be interested in his services, and they are currently trying to keep hold of their star playmaker Maddison amid approaches from Newcastle United.

A huge transfer fee has been mooted but there isn't much difference between the Foxes and Hoops men according to Hartson. He reckons if any bid arrives at Celtic's door, it's top dollar that should be demanded.

He told Go Radio: "Well, listen, Celtic might look at it if it was £50million. Is he any better than O'Riley, Maddison? What is the difference? O'Riley does fantastic things on the ball.

"Maddison has had a little bit more experience of the Premier League. Let's not forget that Maddison has improved massively since he was up at Aberdeen a few years back.

"All of a sudden he goes to Leicester in the Premier League, does that then make him worth 10 times what a player that is playing in the Scottish Premiership is worth? O'Riley is massive to Ange Postecoglou and the Celtic teams plans going forward. Maddison is £50m and O’Riley £12 million?

"Celtic don’t need to take the money. I’m not saying £50 million for him but you’re looking at £18 million or £20 million. Matt O’Riley is different class and he’s going to get better.

"He’s a wonderful player.”
