Huge blaze towers over Scots home after 'abandoned caravan' catches fire

Flames ripped through a caravan outside a property in Glasgow last night as fire crews battled to extinguish the blaze. Scottish Fire and Rescue officers were scrambled to Rockfield Road in Barmulloch at around 7pm after recieving reports of the vehicle alight.

Three fire crews raced to the scene to tackle the blaze but it is understood there were no casualties. Locals reported that the flames were the height of the house and said smoke billowed out into the skyline and hung overhead.

One local reported online that the roof of house nearest had been badly damaged by smoke but said everyone inside was safe. The resident claimed that the caravan had been sitting outside abandoned for a while, and had gas canisters inside.

A spokesperson for the SFRS confirmed their officers had attended the incident.

They said: "We were alerted at 6.58pm on Monday, October 3, to reports of a caravan well alight on Rockfield Road, Glasgow.

"Operations control mobilised three appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. There were no reported casualties."
