Huge blaze rips through New Ross premises as fire services rush to scene

Gardai and fire services are currently attending a major fire at a premises in New Ross, Co Wexford that broke out this morning.

Emergency services were alerted to a huge blaze which is understood to have broken out before 11am at the Culcita furniture manufacturing plant near the Kent's Cross roundabout in New Ross.

The Irish Independent reports that one roof at the plant collapsed as flames tore through the premises, with the cause of the fire still unknown.

Several units of the fire brigade, as well as members of An Garda Siochana, remain at the scene as they look to get the fire under control.

Significant traffic delays are expected as a result of the blaze, with local diversions in place and certain public transport services forced to take alternative routes.

Wexford County Council has asked the public to avoid the area until the scene is cleared, while households have also been advised to keep windows and doors closed until smoke from the fire disperses as a precautionary measure.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to The Irish Mirror: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending the scene of a fire that occurred at a premises in the New Ross area of Co Wexford.

"As Gardaí are still in attendance at the scene no further information is available at this time."
