Huge blaze rips through Glasgow building as fire crews still at scene 10 hours on

Fire crews have been tackling a huge blaze in Glasgow's east end for almost 10 hours.

Emergency services raced to Bernard Terrace in the Bridgeton area on Friday night after the alarm was raised at around 11.45am.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SRFRS) chiefs sent 12 appliances to the scene including three height apparatus.

Footage shared with the Daily Record shows huge flames billowing out of the building on Friday night.

Plumes of smoke tower over the residential area as horrified locals watch on.

Images from Saturday morning show officers on height apparatus still tackling the blaze.

While most of the flames appear to be put out, the derelict building is completely ravaged.

Neighbouring roads and properties are blanketed by thick smoke from the inferno and a police cordon remains in place.

There are no reports of injuries at this time.

Police probing the blaze told the Record on Saturday morning that the cause is still unknown.

SFRS confirmed that, as of around 9am on Saturday, crews were still at the scene.

A spokeswoman said" "We were alerted at 11.43 pm on Friday April 22 to reports of a building on fire at Bernard Terrace in Glasgow

"Operations control mobilised 12 appliances including three height appliances to the scene.

"The fire has affected a derelict building.

"There are no reports of casualties and crews remain in attendance."

Police chiefs confirmed their attendance after being called to nearby Queen Mary Street.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A spokeswoman from the force told the Record : “Officers attended reports of a fire at Queen Mary Street in Bridgeton at a derelict building around 11.50pm on Friday, April 22.

"No-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire."
