Huge amount of cannabis seized at Dublin Port with help of detector dog Alfie

A large amount of herbal cannabis was seized from a car at Dublin Port yesterday.

Detector dog Alfie helped Revenue Officers as part of a routine operation. 2.7kgs of cannabis worth €54,000 was discovered in a UK registered car.

The car had arrived from Holyhead when it was stopped and searched. 1kg of the drug was concealed on the person of one of the passengers.

Two men in their 20s were arrested by An Garda Síochana and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Store Street Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing in relation to the seizure.

Last week, revenue also seized over 53,000 litres of beer and more than 930 litres of wine at Rosslare Europort. The combined retail value is estimated to be approximately €223,000.

A search of two trailers arriving on ferry from Dunkirk, France, resulted in the discovery of the beer. The wine, with an estimated retail value of over €11,300, was discovered following a search of an unaccompanied trailer that had arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg, France.
