Huboo creates 400 jobs at huge new warehouse in Wiltshire

Fast-growing tech firm Huboo has created 400 jobs with the opening of a new warehouse in Wiltshire - its largest in the UK to date.

The Bristol-based company, whose technology enables online retailers to access and complete end-to-end fulfilment operations, has added a 106,000 sq ft facility at the St Modwen Park logistics hub in Chippenham.

The warehouse is twice the size of any British facilities Huboo has previously opened, with the company saying it has the capacity to cater for “hundreds” of clients - with the potential to grow “exponentially.”

The announcement comes just a week after Huboo expanded its operations in Europe with a new warehouse in Germany, to add to the two it opened in The Netherlands and Spain last year.

The company - which already operates four warehouses in and around the Bristol area - said it had chosen Chippenham for its latest base due to its transport links to surrounding cities and major ports such as Bristol and Southampton.

Roles at the new facility will include warehouse hub managers, hub supervisors and site managers, as well as logistics and business improvement roles.

Huboo said it had seen "a boom" in recent months, as year-on-year revenue increased by 124% between January 2021 and January 2022. Its total warehouse space has increased more than 200% in the past 12 months to almost 380,000 sq ft.

The company, launched by co-founders Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd from two secure storage rooms at a Safestore in Bath, said had grown from two employees, 60 customers and £20,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR), to more than 1,000 customers and £1.7m MRR in five years.

Mr Bysh, Huboo's chief executive, said: “Our UK growth trajectory is a vital part of our strategic plans and we’re delighted to mark this with the opening of our biggest facility to date, despite recent market uncertainties.

“We’re confident that the UK’s retail sector will make a strong post-pandemic recovery and, in the meantime, we’re happy to support regional talent and the local economy with the creation of a wide range of new job opportunities, all driven by our leading technology and world-first microhub model.”

Allan Blakeley, chief operating officer at Huboo, added: “We recognise that Chippenham is a thriving town with a growing business community and we look forward to contributing towards its future success, while we remain focused on serving our existing customers and exploring new opportunities.”

Huboo announced the expansion of its head office in Bristol’s Old City earlier this year after more than doubling its workforce, with the firm’s overall headcount now around 630.

Huboo was identified in a Government report last year as one of three companies within Bristol’s burgeoning tech sector expected to attain a "unicorn" valuation of more than US$1bn over the coming years.

BNP Paribas Real Estate represented Huboo on the acquisition.
