Huboo appoints former FedEx boss as chief operations officer

Bristol tech firm Huboo has appointed a former FedEx boss as its new chief operations officer.

The company - whose technology enables online retailers to access and complete end-to-end fulfilment operations - said Allan Blakeley’s responsibilities would include overseeing its continuing expansion across Europe.

The fast-growing firm opened a warehouse in Germany in April - adding to its European sites in The Netherlands and Spain - as well as its largest UK base to date in Wiltshire, which will create 400 jobs.

Mr Blakeley previously worked as global courier FedEx’s European managing director of supply chain for 16 years.

Huboo said he would bring a “wealth of experience” as well as “widespread business knowledge and logistics acumen“ to the company.

It added Mr Blakeley would work closely with chief executive Martin Bysh and the rest of the company's senior leadership to plan, direct and oversee its policies, rules, business initiatives and goals.

Mr Blakeley said: “I look to bring a great deal of operational knowledge and stability to Huboo with a key focus on service excellence. I want to see employees happy in their role and have the opportunity to learn, develop and progress within the business.

“I’ll be using my experience of running European facilities to enable Huboo’s ambitious European growth and sustained leading market position.”

Mr Bysh added: “We’re thrilled to have welcomed Allan onto Huboo’s c-suite to help take us to the next level. Huboo is at a pivotal growth stage, so welcoming Allan adds security and huge potential to the business. His expertise is second to none and he’s another senior appointment we’re very excited about.”

Huboo was launched by co-founders Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd from two secure storage rooms at a Safestore in Bath in 2017. The firm has grown from two employees, 60 customers and £20,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR), to more than 1,000 customers and £1.7m MRR in five years.

The company announced the expansion of its head office in Bristol’s Old City earlier this year after more than doubling its workforce, with the firm’s overall headcount now around 630.

Huboo was identified in a Government report last year as one of three companies within Bristol’s burgeoning tech sector expected to attain a "unicorn" valuation of more than US$1bn over the coming years.
