Tech gargantuan Huawei Consumer Business Group has announced the company’s first professional running watch, Watch GT Runner.
The firm’s latest smartwatch goes on sale in Ireland in April and takes on multisport watches from Garmin, Polar and Coros by including a personal running coach.
The company said that Watch GT Runner records your environmental and health data to formulate scientific and effective personalised training plans for a professional fitness experience.
Huawei Watch GT Runner features the Chinese company’s new TruSeen 5.0+ heart rate monitoring technology and SpO2 monitoring.
The wearable also includes what the firm calls the industry’s first suspended hidden antenna and Dual-Band Five-System GNSS positioning to accurately monitor the running trajectory and support accurate positioning.
Recent flagships from Coros and Garmin also use dual-band GNSS but they cost a lot more money than Watch GT Runner.
Watch GT Runner also includes the Running Ability Index (RAI), which enables users to evaluate their running ability objectively.
While the company’s TruSport professional running training system will give users in-depth analysis of data such as training intensity, training volume and recovery time.
The new device supports the connection of heart rate belts to obtain richer and more professional running data. And the running data can be shared with third-party apps through the Huawei Health App.
Design
Huawei said the 38.5g watch uses an aerodynamic design inspired by a supercar’s air intake grille. It is crafted from lightweight materials such as the high-strength polymer fibre body, ceramic ultra-light bezel and aerospace-grade titanium-alloy watch crown.
It uses an antibacterial silicone watch strap and comes with an exclusive customisable data watch face that shows data including training load, RAI, recovery time and weather.
Huawei GT Runner inherits the renowned battery life of the company’s wearable family, promising 14-day battery life in smart mode under typical usage scenarios and eight days of long battery life in heavy usage scenario.
The watch supports more than 100 sports, and as well as the all-day SpO2 monitoring it includes sleep and stress monitoring, heart rate monitoring and abnormal heart rate alerts.
It is powered by HarmonyOS 2.1 operating system and includes storage space for up to 500 songs for offline music playback.
Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket
The company has also announced two new smartphones, its flagship P50 Pro model and a new foldable phone, P50 Pocket.
Sadly there are no plans to launch these handsets in Ireland or Europe as they do not include Google Play Services due to the U.S. Government’s ongoing trade war with China which bans American companies from supplying hardware or software to Huawei.
Pricing and availability
Huawei Watch GT Runner will be available in Ireland from April 2022, priced from €299.
