HSBC to relocate to new South West headquarters in Bristol

HSBC is set to relocate to a new South West headquarters in Bristol.

The bank has acquired space at the EQ office building in the city centre, where it has said around 270 staff will move from their current base in nearby Temple Quay. The agreement will see HSBC occupy 11,000 sq ft at the development when it opens in the summer.

Located on Victoria Street in Redcliffe, EQ has 20,000 sq ft of facilities including a rooftop restaurant and business lounge with communal terrace, a ground-floor café-kitchen, a 50-seat auditorium, a fitness suite and break-out collaborative space.

It also has a dedicated bicycle entrance and ramp from Temple Street to the basement with more than 260 cycle spaces, as well as electric e-bike charging points and changing and shower facilities.

The facility was one of Bristol’s first new-build offices to target 'Carbon Net Zero in Operation' in accordance with the UK Green Building Council’s (UKGBC) framework approach. Global engineering and architecture consultancy Arup is also among those set to occupy the building.

HSBC said its new flagship regional office would become one of its most sustainable buildings across Europe, and play a “key part” in supporting its commitment to boost and drive growth across the city centre.

The bank’s South West head of corporate banking James Shepherd, said: “We are delighted to make this investment as part of our long term commitment to Bristol and the South West. Bristol is a key strategic office for us and this move will provide a fantastic working environment for our colleagues whilst also supporting our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment.”

Esra Fanoscu, head of corporate services for UK and Europe, added: “To ensure we give our customers and clients the very best service it is important that we provide the best colleague experience when developing our workspaces. The new office in Bristol will help us elevate the experience whilst progressing our commitment to our ‘Net Zero’ strategy.”

Commercial property firm CBRE acted for HSBC on the deal, financial details of which were not disclosed. Jones Lang LaSalle and Cushman and Wakefield acted for the landlord.
