HSBC opening times slashed in UK 122 branches

More than 100 HSBC branches will have their opening hours permanently reduced, the high street bank has announced. Changes to hours were originally brought in during the pandemic.

Now, hours at 122 of its banks compared have been slashed compared to their pre-pandemic times. They also said 148 sites will increase their opening times.

Hours at 171 branches will remain the same. HSBC says 172 “cash service” branches will open from 9.30am until 3.30pm during the week and shut on weekends, reports MirrorOnline.

A mixture of 163 “digital service” and “cash service” banks will open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to 13:30pm on Saturdays, while a further 105 branches will open 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays and close on weekends.

No banks are shutting permanently as part of the changes. HSBC has 441 branches across the UK and is writing to customers in 26 of its branches where hours have been cut by more than 30%.

If your nearest bank is closing, and you don’t want to leave HSBC, the lender runs pop up branches outside of regular hours. You can see the HSBC website for a full list of where upcoming pop-ups will be held.

Last month, Santander announced changing its weekday opening hours from 9:30am to 4:30pm to 9:30am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday. Customers will still be able to book appointments at the high street bank between 3pm and 5pm if they need support that cannot be provided earlier in the day.

A further 316 Santander branches will move from full day Saturday opening (9:30am to 4pm) to half day Saturday opening (9:30am to 12:30pm). Again, customers will be able to make face-to-face appointments after branches shut, up until 4:00pm on Saturdays.
