HSBC cuts opening times permanently at 122 branches - list of worst-hit places

HSBC has confirmed it has permanently reduce its opening hours across more than 100 of its branches, after first bringing in the changes during Covid.

The move means a cut to hours at 122 of its banks compared to their pre-pandemic times, while 148 sites will increase their opening times.

Hours at 171 HSBC branches will remain the same.

HSBC says 172 “cash service” branches will open from 9.30am until 3.30pm during the week and shut on the weekends.

A mixture of 163 “digital service” and “cash service” banks will open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to 13:30pm on Saturdays, while a further 105 branches will open 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays and close on weekends.

One site - Gerrard Street in London - will open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays, from 9.30am to 13:30pm on Saturdays, and from 11.30am to 3pm on Sundays.

No banks are shutting permanently as part of these changes.

HSBC has 441 branches across the UK. The bank says it is writing to customers in 26 of its branches where hours have been cut by more than 30%.

If your nearest bank is closing, and you don’t want to leave HSBC, the lender runs pop up branches outside of regular hours.

Customers will still be able to book appointments at the high street bank between 3pm and 5pm if they need support that cannot be provided earlier in the day.

A further 316 Santander branches will move from full day Saturday opening (9:30am to 4pm) to half day Saturday opening (9:30am to 12:30pm).

Again, customers will be able to make face-to-face appointments after branches shut, up until 4:00pm on Saturdays.
