Children and young people in a Renfrewshire village will soon benefit from a new sports facility after £50,000 was awarded to a parent group.
Howwood Primary School parent council's request for funding was given the green light at Tuesday's communities and housing policy board.
The sum will go towards a multi-use games area (MUGA) at the school in Semple View, creating an all-weather surface for youngsters, which can be used for a variety of sports and activities.
Councillor Iain McMillan, leader of the Labour group, said at the board meeting: "[I would like] to congratulate the people of Howwood on their continued good work.
"I know this is slightly different from the people who raised the money for the pitch area and the park area and this is the school, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some overlap in some of the people involved in the two organisations.
"They have totally transformed parts of the village and they've done an absolutely fantastic job."
The application was submitted following a high volume of activity on a grass area in the playground outside of school hours, including football and netball, among other sports and games.
However, a report to the board said as the weather worsens, the site can become "less accessible" because of drainage issues and "boggy conditions underfoot".
Despite recent upgrades to Howwood public park, the council document said the demand for areas where children and young people can meet to play and socialise in surpasses the availability of local community resources.
Earlier this week, Councillor Andy Doig, an independent rep for the village, said the school community would be "very pleased" about the success of the funding bid.
He said: "They have been interested in that for a while. I'm very well aware that the parent council has been active on this issue.
"I think the staff at the school are supportive of the campaign.
"It's something that the parent council has been looking to achieve for some time and something I would endorse."
Additional funding of around £5,000 will still be needed, which the report said the parent council will raise in the community.
