Howdens unveils East Yorkshire expansion plans as £2b business builds to grow

A three year plan to increase scale and scope of manufacturing by Howdens in East Yorkshire has been revealed, with two huge new build projects being pursued.

The moves are likely to bring in scores of new jobs, if not hundreds.

An initial £10 million investment in land was outlined as the FTSE-250 listed kitchen specialist announced record financial results, with sales surpassing the £2 billion mark.

A large zone behind the current operational 75-acre site at Howden is to be acquired, with a new build facility to bring further cabinet-making capacity and capability to make more kitchen doors.

Capitol Park at nearby Goole is also to be invested in, chief executive Andrew Livingston revealed to shareholders, with the development of a product distribution centre on Junction 36 of the M62.

It will see the development of a new warehouse and distribution centre close to the original base, freeing it up for manufacturing.

A two year build programme is envisaged at the Humber Enterprise Zone site.

It is anticipated new lines will be operational by early 2025 as it ensures it can serve the anticipated demand from a targeted 950 depots. Howdens currently operates from 778, with strong year-on-year growth already seen in 2022.

Investors were told the “business is in great shape” following the record financial results, with revenue growth of 15.6 per cent already seen over like-for-like operations in the UK, and 21.4 per cent with additions and international expansion.

It comes after recent investments in worktop production, with assets of one business creating Howdens Work Services in early 2021, and the latest addition of Normanton-based Sheridan.

Howdens also has a 25 acre site in Runcorn, Cheshire.
