How you can watch the real interview that inspired Channel 4's Brian and Maggie

Channel 4's latest drama takes inspiration from the infamous interview between Brian Walden and Margaret Thatcher.

Brian and Maggie follows the story surrounding Thatcher's last-ever TV interview which some believe was a contributing factor in her resigning as Prime Minister the following year.

Former Labour MP turned ITV journalist Walden conducted the interview and after being on good terms the pair never spoke again after the interview.

The drama series Brian and Maggie will show the build-up to the interview and Walden's decisions behind the questions that would eventually force Thatcher to resign a year later.

The Channel 4 two-part drama was created by playwright James Graham best known for his work on Dear England, Tammy Faye, Ink, Best of Enemies and creating TV shows like Sherwood and The Way.

Speaking to The Guardian about the miniseries writer James Graham said: "I hope it asks a big, important question, without inflating the scale of it. This instrument of democracy, the political interview, is in crisis.

"We really need to talk about that, talk about talking, have a conversation about conversations and why they’re not as fulfilling and satisfying and illuminating as they used to be."

Leading the show is Steve Coogan as Brian Walden and Harriet Walter as Margaret Thatcher.

You can watch Brian and Maggie at 9pm on Channel 4 on Wednesday, January 29.

After that, the second and final episode will air in the same time slot on Thursday, January 30.

Both episodes will become available to watch on All4 after they have aired.
