Fish and chips fans can get their hands on thousands of free dinners over the next few months.
National Fish and Chips Day is today (June 2) and to celebrate, vinegar brand Sarson’s will be reimbursing chippie dinners to Brits who "chip in" to support their local fish and chip shop.
This scheme has been launched to help local chippies as the price hikes on fish, oil, potatoes and energy are leaving many owners struggling to stay afloat.
Sarson's warns that over half of British chippies could close by 2025 due to rising costs.
The offer is part of the vinegar brand's #SarsonsFryday campaign which celebrates the tradition of fish and chip Fridays.
Each and every Friday from today - June 2, 2023 - until Friday, February 29, 2024 Sarson’s will be reimbursing 50 portions of fish and chips meals.
However, to launch National Fish and Chip Day Sarson’s will be giving away 250 meals this week.
To claim a free dinner, fish and chip fans need only snap a photo of their order complete with Sarson’s vinegar, either a bottle, a sachet or any promotional signage.
You will then need to upload your snap, alongside a receipt to Sarsonsfryday.co.uk to be in with a chance to get your Friday dinner for free.
Only entries uploaded to the website will be accepted.
Now if fish isn't your cup of tea - fear not as there are few meals which fall under the promotional offer.
The list of chippy meals accepted as part of the offer include:
- Fish and Chips
- Pie and Chips
- Scampi and Chips
- Sausage and Chips
- Chicken and Chips e.g. nuggets or other chicken products
- Burger and Chips
- Chips as a side dish
Sarson’s has confirmed that vegetarian/vegan versions of the above dishes will be accepted as meals too.
Only one entry per person will be accepted per week and the maximum value of the meal covered by the promotion is £11 and a winner get get four meals reimbursed per win.
In addition to the nationwide chip giveaway, Sarson’s will also be popping up in seaside locations across the UK, giving away unlimited fish & chips for one day only.
These giveaways will be popping up in places like Brighton, Blackpool, Newquay and Newcastle.
You will follow Sarson’s at @sarsonsuk to find out if there’s an unlimited Chip Drop happening near you this summer.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers and Fish & Chip shop operator said: “Fish and Chip shops are so deeply entrenched in British culture and history, the thought of them disappearing from our high-streets and seaside towns all together is unimaginable, but given the increasing threat of closure, could soon become a bleak reality."
