While messaging platform Discord has been a firm favourite with gamers, the chat app previously had limited integration with gaming consoles.
Now, Xbox has finally announced that voice chat integration will be coming to the console and it’s already being rolled out to Xbox Insiders beta program members.
Gaming fans have been using Discord for years, but many are surprised Microsoft beat Sony’s Playstation console integration with the app.
Many are now wondering when they’ll be able to start using the new feature and how to set it up. Here’s everything you need to know.
How will Discord’s new Xbox voice chat integration work?
The new Discord voice chat integration with Xbox takes just minutes to set up, and all you need to do is follow some simple steps.
To set up Discord voice chat on your Xbox console:
- Install the Xbox mobile app
- Open a voice channel on Discord and select ‘Transfer Discord audio’ to your Xbox console
- You’ll then be asked to confirm the change, tap ‘yes’. Your Discord will now be connected to your console
- The mobile app also allows you to follow the same process for server voice channels, group direct messages and direct messages
When will you be able to use Discord voice chat integration on Xbox?
Discord voice chat integration is currently only available to Xbox Insiders beta program users.
However, if you are not a member and do not want to join, you’ll have to wait for the wider rollout later in the year.
On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, Kellyn Slone, product communications group manager at Discord, said: “Today’s launch is rolling out to Xbox Insiders for early Alpha testing, and we’ll continue to iterate based on the feedback we receive.”
Therefore, there is no exact date for when all Xbox console owners will be able to enjoy the feature just yet.
The Xbox Insider is free to join, but the programs and games you’re given access to will depend on your level within the program.
To join, just download the Xbox Insider Hub on your computer or Xbox console and log in. If you’re looking to download it on your console, head to the store and search for ‘insider’ in the search bar. Select ‘Xbox insider bundle’ and download it.
