Leeds United ended the chaos of deadline day with the signing of Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich. Gnonto signed a five-year-deal at Elland Road and adds another extremely talented young attacker to Leeds’ squad.
Leeds had been crying out for another senior option to supplement Patrick Bamford in Jesse Marsch’s side, though if the American continues to trust in young players, there is no reason why Gnonto can’t have an impact at just 18. The Whites also have Joe Gelhardt, Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph all pushing to establish themselves in the first team meaning Gnonto has plenty of competition on his hands.
Where Gnonto could have the advantage, though, is the pedigree in which he arrives with. He already has over 70 senior appearances under his belt at FC Zurich and has also been capped four times by Italy in which he has both scored and assisted against Germany.

Gnonto is also very versatile at the top end of the pitch, as his attributes also enable him to play out wide rather than just solely as a number nine. His pace, low centre of gravity and dribbling ability make him similar in playing style to Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling.
Where Gnonto could improve like Sterling has in his career is making sure he gets into goal scoring positions inside the area. So with all that said, there is no doubt that Gnonto can come in and have some sort of impact on the senior side straight away, even if Marsch has already admitted that he is seen as a long term project.
