West Ham United’s two-point advantage over the Premier League’s bottom three was halved on Saturday after a 4-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Hammers currently sit 16th in the table and while their league position did not change, results elsewhere over the weekend meant that they are now only a point clear of the bottom three.
Southampton’s 1-0 win over Leicester City however saw them climb off the foot of the table and while four teams separate West Ham and 20th place, just two points keep them from the Saints and Bournemouth, the current bottom two.

Next up in the Premier League for West Ham is a home match against mid-table Aston Villa on Sunday in between away and home legs with AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League’s round of 16. West Ham then have a three-week break in the Premier League, not playing again until hosting 19th place Southampton on April 2.
Of sides currently in the bottom nine, with just six points separating 12th from 20th at present, West Ham have, on paper, the second easiest fixtures in their next four games.
