How Tottenham could line up next season as Ange Postecoglou eyes three new signings

Ange Postecoglou is the next man tasked with taking the reins at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Celtic boss has been selected by chairman Daniel Levy as his search for Antonio Conte ’s permanent successor in North London comes to an end. The 57-year-old certainly has a big job on his hands to steady the ship after a tumultuous season that saw Spurs finish eighth in the Premier League.

Work has already gotten underway with a number of potential transfer targets having already been identified. With that being said, Mirror Football takes a look at the side Postecoglou could field on the first day of next season:

We start with one of the most glaring alterations that Postecoglou needs to make to the Spurs side - in goal. Current club captain Hugo Lloris is out of contract this summer and looks likely to bid farewell to North London.

Even if the Frenchman decides to stay, Spurs still need to make a change between the sticks. David Raya seems like the most obvious option with the Spaniard expected to leave Brentford this summer and is already on the North London side’s shortlist.

Moving into defence and the back four in Postecoglou’s preferred 4-3-3 formation could see some alteration. Recent arrivals Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero should retain their positions, despite there being some doubt about the former’s suitability in a four.

Ben Davies remains as Spurs’ best left-back so should also feature regularly unless the club decide to replace him entirely. The only change should see him joined by Wolves star Max Kilman.

The 26-year-old has recently emerged as a target for the North London club following his consistent performances at Molineux. He still has three years left to run on his current contract so it might not be cheap to seal his services.

Moving into midfield and Spurs could potentially target another Premier League star. James Maddison faces an uncertain future with Leicester after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.

He is expected to leave the King Power Stadium with just one year left on his contract and Spurs are big admirers of his talents. It is thought that £40m might be enough to seal a deal for the former Norwich man although Newcastle might want to get involved in the bidding after their long courtship.

Maddison should be supported by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma - the pair the most obvious candidates to play in midfield amid the ongoing injury absence of Rodrigo Bentancur.

Whilst Spurs fans will be hoping for serious investment in attack, some might be happier if it looks the same as last term. Harry Kane has just one year left on his deal and is facing some serious interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Daniel Levy is determined to keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium though and Postecoglou’s job will certainly be much easier should the club’s record goalscorer still be there.

Despite not having hit the heights of previous campaigns last term, Heung Min-Son and Dejan Kulusevski are the most obvious candidates for either flank. The latter is only on loan with Spurs but a permanent deal is anticipated to be pushed through this summer.
