How to Wear Sand IRL: Spring's New Hue Inspired by Tyla and Kylie Jenner's Met Gala Look

This year's greatest fashion moments have been inspired by the biggest trends, including office-siren, coquette, and cowboy core. The latest one to join the party? Sand. Yes, you read correctly. With another Met Gala in the books, celebrities interpreted the "Garden of Time" theme by embracing elements of nature over florals, with neutrals becoming an overarching theme. Think: Taylor Russell's wood-inspired Loewe breastplate, Kylie Jenner's sophisticated Oscar de la Renta gown, Mindy Kaling's sculptural dress by Gaurav Gupta, and Lana Del Rey's dramatic corseted tulle dress with branches by Alexander McQueen.

In keeping with boundary-pushing expectations, budding power dresser Tyla managed to pull off the ultimate sand gown in which she had to be carried up the steps that set her apart from other tan-based looks of the night. Curated by stylist Katie Qian and designed by Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, the viral ensemble nodded to the "sands of time" by being intricately molded onto the Water singer's body, and later cut into a minidress inside the actual Gala. And with this historic look, we predict that sand will be back in full force this season.

The concept of wearing neutrals isn't exactly new, as we've seen the staple hue emitted by the likes of street style stars at Fashion Week for years, and most recently, Rihanna, who wore a sandy honey corset dress by Alexander McQueen at a Fenty Beauty event last month. Sand has and will always be "in."

Whether you're a minimalist or looking to try something new, see the best ways to incorporate sand into your wardrobe for spring.

Add a Subtle Pop of Color

In case you're a color girl, but still want to hop on the trend, add a bright shoe for that extra oomph, like this nude jumpsuit and yellow heel combo.

Play With Texture

Textures make all the difference in a look, especially when all the pieces are in the same hue. This lightweight knit cardigan and cotton cargo pants work perfectly together.

Try a Daring Silhouette

With spring giving you every opportunity to go out, you can still go big or go home with the sand trend. Just throw on a powerful slip dress like this back-baring one and you're instantly best dressed.

Play With Layers

Who said layering was only for fall and winter? Spring does bring unexpected temperatures where it can go from 80 to 50 degrees all in one day, and layering with unique pieces will help you remain stylish and practical.

Use As an Accent Piece

For the color-obsessed, throw on a neutral piece to perfectly balance your look.

Throw On a Power Suit

What's better than a power suit? Having it in a shade of sand.

Have Fun With Accessories

In case you don't want sand to be a main component of your outfit, opt for a classic styling method like denim-on-denim and add sandy gold accessories like this Balenciaga bag and heels.
