The NFL returns to London this afternoon as the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints go head to head at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It’s an intriguing match-up to begin this year’s capital series that will continue with the Green Bay Packers’ very first visit to London to face the New York Giants on October 9 and the Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Denver Broncos at Wembley on October 30.
This will be the Vikings’ third visit to UK shores since 2013, with previous victories over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, and Kirk Cousins and Co will hope to make it three wins from four matches in 2022 after brushing aside the Packers on opening weekend before bouncing back from a meltdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football by outlasting the Detroit Lions in an all-NFC North matchup last weekend.
Standing in their way is a Saints team who squeezed past rivals the Atlanta Falcons to kick off the new season before suffering abject back-to-back defeats by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers.
Quarterback Jameis Winston will have awful memories of his last trip to London, when he threw five interceptions playing for the Bucs against the Panthers in 2019, but won’t have a chance to atone for that implosion after being ruled out with back and ankle injuries.
Veteran Andy Dalton will get the start under centre instead, but is without wide receiver Michael Thomas as the Saints also look to go 3-0 in London after previous wins here over the Chargers and Dolphins.
