Alexander Volkanvoski and Ilia Topuria headline UFC 298 tonight.
The UFC featherweight title is on the line in Saturday’s huge main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, with Volkanovski providing another defence of the belt he has held since December 2019.
The Australian is back concentrating on remaining unbeaten at 145 pounds having twice tasted defeat by Islam Makhachev over the last 12 months after challenging for the lightweight gold, edged out at UFC 284 in Perth last February before stopping Yair Rodriguez in the summer to defend his own belt and then replacing Charles Oliveira at late notice and being knocked out in the first round by Makhachev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi in October.
Volkanvoski could face a tough test against the undefeated Topuria, currently ranked at no3 in the division after a six-match winning run in the UFC that included a dominant performance against Josh Emmett in Jacksonville last summer.
Tonight’s co-main event sees Robert Whittaker lock horns with Paulo Costa, while Ireland’s Ian Machado Garry faces Geoff Neal, Henry Cejudo meets Merab Dvalishvili and Anthony Hernandez fights Roman Kopylov.
