How to watch the Xbox Developer Direct games showcase

Wondering what you’ll be able to play on Xbox and Game Pass this year? The Xbox Developer Direct has you covered.

The annual preview sees some of the biggest game studios showing off their most exciting new games.

This time around we’ll get our first look at the whip-cracking new Indiana Jones game and the infernal odyssey that is Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, along with two other titles.

As usual, you’ll be able to watch all the new footage live from the comfort of your sofa. Here’s what you need to know about the Xbox Developer Direct showcase, including where and when you can stream it.

When is the Xbox Developer Direct 2024?

Xbox announced that the next Developer Direct will take place at 8pm UK time on January 18.

The showcase will be followed by the reveal of The Elder Scrolls Online update at 9pm.

How to watch the Xbox Developer Direct 2024?

The event will be livestreamed on both the Xbox and Bethesda channels on Twitch and YouTube.

What games will be shown at Xbox Developer Direct?

This year’s showcase focuses on Microsoft’s stable of game studios, from MachineGames to Obsidian, so expect plenty of talk of exclusives and day-one Game Pass launches.

Indiana Jones

Sweden’s MachineGames, which is best known for its work on the recent Wolfenstein games, will take the wraps off its Indiana Jones game. Other than the fact that it will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, we’ve not seen or heard anything about the new title since it was announced in 2021.

Thankfully, the Direct should satiate patient players with a slew of info, including ten minutes of game and developer insights. We’ll finally learn the game’s setting and story, how you’ll play as Indy, and watch the first gameplay trailer.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Cambridge-based Ninja Theory will take fans behind the scenes of the sequel to the Bafta-winning Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. Steeped in Norse mythology, the new game is expected to boast slick visuals, bone-crunching combat, and a nightmarish narrative that once again takes us inside Senua’s mental state. Laying out its ambitions, Ninja Theory founder Tameem Antoniades boasted that Hellblade 2 will make its 2017 predecessor "look like an indie game".

Avowed

Between Baldur’s Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy, 2023 was a great year for fantasy lovers. Avowed could turn out to be the genre’s next must-have thanks to its sprawling world. In the same mould as Skyrim, the game takes place from the first-person perspective and features magic mixed with sword combat. Based on the trailer that was shown at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, it also features giant spiders and armies of the undead.

Ara: History Untold

This historical grand strategy game comes from the talent behind Civilisation V. Expect to see new gameplay, more details about the inspiration behind its key periods, and major feature
