If you can’t tear your eyes away from the disaster that the US Election is shaping up to be, I’ve got good news for you! Vice President Kamala Harris is about to face off against former President Donald Trump for their first-ever Presidential debate.

At this point, I can’t even predict the bonkers things Trump is going to do. During his most recent debate against President Joe Biden, the pair spent a chunk of time arguing over who was better at playing golf. I’m serious.

So, if you’re wondering how to watch the Harris V Trump Presidential Debate 2024 in Australia, we’ve got all the details below. 

When is the Harris V Trump Presidential Debate?

The Harris V Trump Presidential Debate 2024 is taking place in the US on Tuesday, September 10 in the evening. 

That’s 11am AEST on Wednesday, September 11 in Australia.

Where can I watch the debate in Australia? 

There are a number of platforms Aussies can watch coverage of the debate, including Channel Nine, Channel 10, Channel Seven, ABC News and SBS. The debate officially starts at 11am AEST, but some networks will start coverage slightly earlier.

Channel 9 and 9Now

The debate will be available to watch live on Channel 9 and those who miss the 11am AEST start can catch up on 9Now.

Channel 10 and 10Play

Channel 10 will start their coverage at 10.55am AEST with catch-up available on 10Play. The network will be using insights from CBS News in the US along with local experts to provide commentary, including 10 News First National Affairs Editor Hugh Riminton and News Presenter Narelda Jacobs

Channel Seven

Channel Seven is providing live coverage of the debate, using the ABC feed direct from the US. Its simulcast will take place from 10.55am to 12.35pm AEST. 

ABC News

ABC News will be providing coverage from 11am to 1.35pm AEST. After broadcasting the debate, the channel will provide analysis through a panel including Jeremy Fernandez and Julia Baird

SBS

SBS is also using the ABC feed from the US and will broadcast coverage from 11am to 1pm AEST.

What will take place during the Harris V Trump Presidential Debate 2024? 

The debate will run for 90 minutes and is being held at The National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have never faced each other in a debate before, so all eyes will be on the pair.

What rules do Trump and Harris have to follow for the debate?

Harris and Trump have agreed to a long list of rules, as per the ABC. These include: 

  • The debate will run for 90 minutes including two commercial breaks
  • Only two moderators (Linsey Davis and David Muir) will be able to ask questions
  • There are no opening statements allowed
  • Closing statements will be kept to two minutes per candidate
  • No prewritten notes or props are allowed onstage
  • Harris and Trump will be provided with a pad of paper, a pen and a bottle of water
  • Microphones will only be turned on for the candidate during their turn to speak and will be muted for the opposition
  • Answers and rebuttals will be kept to two minutes, with an extra minute allowed for clarifications, responses or follow-ups
  • There’s no audience allowed in the room

Who is hosting the debate?

Two US ABC news anchors will be hosting the debate: Linsey Davis and David Muir. Davis anchors ABC News Live Prime and is an old hat when it comes to interviewing politicians — she’s chatted to Hilary Clinton and Harris before.

Muir anchors World News Tonight and has previously moderated both Republican and Democratic Presidential primary debates.
