How to watch Super Formula in 2025: Schedule, line-up and more

The 2025 Super Formula championship commences this weekend at Suzuka, where Sho Tsuboi will kickstart his title defence.
The 29-year-old became just the sixth driver to complete the Super GT and Super Formula double as he clinched both of Japan’s top championship titles in 2024.
It firmly warranted his switch from Inging to TOM’S in Super Formula and he will continue with the Setagaya outfit for a second year.
Tsuboi will attempt to defend his crown in Super Formula’s biggest season yet as 12 rounds make up the campaign, as opposed to nine last year.

So, with the championship set to return, here is how to watch all of the action.

When is the first race of the 2025 Super Formula season?

  • Venue: Suzuka Circuit
  • Date: Friday 7 March - Sunday 9 March
Suzuka will host the opening weekend of the 2025 Super Formula campaign, beginning with both one-hour practice sessions on Friday 7 March.
The competitive sessions will then commence on Saturday, starting with the first qualifying round and opening race. Qualifying takes place at 9:50am local time (0:50am GMT, 1:50am CET) with the 75-minute race at 2:40pm in Japan (5:40am GMT, 6:40am CET).
It is the same format on Sunday with qualifying in the morning and a 75-minute race in the afternoon. Qualifying is at 10:15am in Japan (1:15am GMT, 2:15am CET), while the race occurs at the same time as on Saturday.

How can I watch Super Formula in 2025?

Motorsport.tv is the exclusive broadcaster of the 2025 Super Formula season in all countries bar Japan.
It will provide live coverage of every qualifying session plus the race with English commentary and is available via a monthly subscription for either £4.79, €5.39 or $5.99.
But, for this weekend, fans can watch the event for free via motorsport.tv

2025 Super Formula calendar

Super Formula will have its biggest calendar yet in 2025, as the season will comprise 12 rounds as opposed to nine in recent years.
The series will visit the same five venues - Suzuka, Motegi, Autopolis, Fuji and Sugo - but with an extra race at Suzuka, Motegi and Fuji.
But this season's schedule is still shorter than what was originally planned as, for the first time in 21 years, Super Formula was set to expand overseas with South Korea agreeing to a race. However, negotiations between Super Formula organiser JRP and the promoter of the Korean event broke down
