Their opener at home to Ireland always felt like it could effectively be the title decider on day one, but the 38-17 trouncing acutely demonstrated Les Bleus' shortcomings – only exacerbated by the absence of talismanic scrum-half Antoine Dupont.
The red card dished out to lock Paul Willemse after half-an-hour in Marseille certainly didn't help matters, and he's replaced at Murrayfield by Cameron Woki. 20-year-old wing Louis Bielle-Biarrey counts a try against Scotland last year among his career tally of five – he's preferred to Yoram Moefana today.
