Aston Villa travel to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie tonight.
It continues a remarkable first season at Europe’s top table for some 41 years for the 1981/82 winners, who took the eighth and final automatic qualification slot during the new league phase with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Celtic before easily brushing aside Belgian opposition Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the last 16.

Having already beaten Bayern Munich this term and also faced the likes of Juventus, Unai Emery’s side now face an enormous challenge in a bid for the last four as they meet a PSG team who are soaring with confidence after last weekend securing a record-extending 13th - and fourth consecutive - Ligue 1 title with six games to spare while yet to lose a single match.
Their early-season wobbles long since forgotten, the French giants - formerly coached by Emery - have been absolutely dominant under Luis Enrique over recent months and may fancy their chances of finally ending that long, frustrating wait for a first Champions League success.
Having only surprisingly won half of their games to finish 15th in the initial league phase, PSG beat domestic rivals Brest 10-0 on aggregate in a thoroughly one-sided knockout play-off tie before trading 1-0 away wins with Premier League champions-elect Liverpool in the last 16 and holding their nerve to triumph on penalties at Anfield.
