How to watch Napoli v Liverpool - UK TV channel, live stream, early team news

Forget Paris, a new Champions League season gets underway this week and Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday evening.

The Reds came within 90 minutes of clinching a seventh European Cup at the end of a marathon season, but they will be hoping to go one better this time around, with the incentive of another Istanbul final appearance up for grabs. We all know how that went last time.

Jurgen Klopp's men kick off the group stages with a very tricky trip to Naples, where they will face Serie A league leaders Napoli. The visitors are guaranteed a hostile reception and have never won in the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. Nevertheless, the Reds will want to get their group stage campaign off to good start, after an underwhelming beginning to their Premier League campaign.

Early team news

Jurgen Klopp welcomes back Thiago Alcantara, who is back in training and has travelled to Italy with the squad.

But the Reds boss has stated that captain Jordan Henderson will be absent until after the international break next month as he provided injury updates in Naples - including the reason Curtis Jones missed Saturday's Merseyside derby.

The midfielder picked up a calf problem in the closing stages of the Community Shield in July and was back in the match-day squad for the 2-1 win over Newcastle United on August 31.

However, the 21-year-old has suffered a recurrence of that injury and has remained on Merseyside with Fabio Carvalho, who suffered a dead leg in the goalless draw with Everton.

Hirving Lozano should be available for Napoli despite being stretchered off following a clash of heads on Saturday. The Italians will be without Diego Demme, who it recovering from a broken foot and Victor Osimhen could miss out, after skipping training this week with a muscular problem.

Luciano Spalletti will be glad that he doesn't need to play himself this evening. The Napoli boss has injured his own shoulder and is expected to watch the game from the touchline with his arm in a sling.
