Max Verstappen starts from pole position for today’s sprint race, ahead of the Formula One Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
A chaotic qualifying session on Friday night ended in the Dutchman’s favour after a record-breaking five red flags in often damp conditions. Charles Leclerc put his Ferrari second, ahead of Lando Norris with Lewis Hamilton lodged in 13th.
This year’s sprint race, officially known as F1 Sprint, hands out points to the top eight drivers, from eight for first to one for eighth.
Therefore, the grid has more incentive to push for an entertaining 100km dash - even if the budget cap has made team bosses nervous about any damage suffered in the process.
