England commence their latest T20 World Cup campaign against Scotland at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados today.
Jos Buttler’s side head into the tournament as defending champions, having clinched their second title with a thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in Melbourne in November 2022.
That achievement saw them reign supreme over white-ball cricket having also won the 50-over World Cup on home soil in 2019, though their fortunes in the shorter formats of the game have rather faltered since then.
England’s ODI title defence was a shambles in India during the winter, while their recent weather-affected victory over Pakistan was their first T20 series win since that 2022 World Cup triumph Down Under.
They will hope they are finally rounding into form at just the right time though and avoid a huge upset against neighbours Scotland, who booked their spot at the tournament in the West Indies and United States by beating Denmark in the Europe Region Qualifier in Edinburgh last summer.
England will not need reminding of their last fixture against today’s opponents, having been upset by six runs in a thrilling ODI clash in Edinburgh back in 2018.
